Last November 7, 2015 the Opus MariaeMediatricis Foundation, Inc. of Manila conducted a medical mission at St. Maximillian Hall of Mary Co-Redemptrix Church at Km. 4, San Felipe, Naga City. The medical mission was made possible with the cooperation with the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate of Naga City,The Mission of the Immaculate Mediatrix- Naga Cenacle, and Radio Caritas Mariae, DWRV 98.3 FM, the Mother’s Touch. The president of the OMMFI is Mrs. Carina A. Cirunay and the Treasurer is Ms. Jeanes L. Menorca. The participating doctors were the following: for the Dental services- Roman Pedro Baldemor, DMDandJoanna R. Nery, DMD. For the General medical services: Internal medicine- Maria Lourdes Fallar, MD; General Medicine- Ken Puzon III, MD and Jennie D. Digas, MD. For the optical examinations, there was the husband and wife team- Dr. Reynaldo Menorca and Dr. Ana Marie Menorca. Doctors from Naga City who also participated were: Geriatrics- Ma. Rosalinda Espiritu, MD; and Pediatric Medicine – Eileen Navarrosa, MD. There were twelve members of the medical team, including the assistants. In case of an emergency, there was an ambulance on stand-by which was provided by Dr. Vito Borja III.
Free medical, dental, and optical examinations were rendered by the doctors. The patients were given free medicines and vitamins which were provided by the foundation. Those who underwent optical examination were given free reading eyeglasses. Patients came from the vicinity of San Felipe, Pacol, Carolina, and Panicuason. Some patients also came from Panganiban, Concepcion, Mabolo, and Tabuco as well as from Milaor, San Fernando, Gainza, Minalabac, and Magarao. There were more than five hundred patients treated during the one-day Medical Mission. The patients were provided light snacks by benefactors of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate.
The following associations affiliated with the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate assisted in filling the needs of the patients: OMMFI, MIM, YFI, Associates and Tertiaries. Valuable support was also given by boys from Fazenda Da Esperanca. Financial assistance as well was received from benefactors of FFI from Bacolod City, Cagayan de Oro, and Naga City for the Medical Mission.
The current Father Guardian of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate is Rev. Fr. Felix Ma. Dueñas, FI, and his Vicar is Rev. Fr. Alphonse Salazar, FI. The convent of the FFI is at Km. 4, San Felipe, Naga City. FFI runs the Franciscan Radio Station, DWRV, 98.3 FM, the Mother’s Touch.
